Women’s Guild

The Women’s Guild generally meets the first Wednesday of each month (September through May) at 7pm in the Lower Level. The evening begins with a brief devotional over coffee and dessert, before we conduct our business meeting. At the conclusion of the business meeting we often engage in various projects such as creating gift baskets for our home-bound members and valentines for the Sunday School students. We also host an annual Christmas dinner party each December and a “Bingo Bash” each August.

The women’s guild raises funds to be used for various projects and programs around the church and offers a scholarship program for youth to attend church camps or other church-related retreats.
All female members of St. John are automatically members of the Women’s Guild and are welcome to attend any of our gatherings and invite their friends.

The mission of the Women’s Guild is “to help and give guidance in the work of the entire church and to help support St. John through Christian service and giving.”

A History of the Women’s Guild

The guild started in April 14, 1909 with 15 ladies, at that time it was known as “Ladies Aid.” In 1917 the members started giving as many pennies as their age into the Birthday Box. In December 1933 women in the church gained the privilege to vote at Congregational Meetings held within the church. In August 1937 the church changed the language spoken in worship from German to English. During this time our denomination the Evangelical Church of North American merged with the German Reformed Church.
